I wanted to start with ‘Bisou’ as in some ways the original piece marked a beginning for me, both in terms of my artwork – it was the first piece I ever used colour in - and in terms of my life with Suzi. I think what appeals to me most is the simplicity, and I wanted to retain that sense of directness when I revisited it.
Originally this was very much a piece for myself and Suzi when we first met. Suzi was a French teacher, so using ‘Bisou’ (French for ‘kiss’) as the title was a little personal touch for her. All these years later of course it is no longer just the two of us. Two have become five, and Charlie, Eliza and Ophelia are the three hearts which have added to the artwork, and to our lives.
